Bullying and harassment
Unfortunately, on occasion, you may have need of HR support due to allegations of bullying and harassment. This is behaviour that makes someone feel intimidated or offended. Harassment is unlawful under the Equality Act 2010. Some examples of bullying and harassment are: spreading malicious rumours, unfair treatment, picking on someone or regularly undermining someone, not allowing someone training or promotion opportunities.

Bullying and harassment can take place in many forms. It could be face to face, via email, via letter, via virtual networking or by phone. While bullying is not against the law per se harassment is. This is when the harassment is related to one of the nine protected characteristics defined by the Equality Act 2010 name: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation.

Work with Blue Allium to ensure you have processes and procedures in place to help prevent problems and deal with any problems that arise.

Conflict management
We spend a large amount of our time at work and on occasion conflict can arise. Conflict management is the process for handling disputes and disagreements between two or multiple parties.

The aim is to minimise the negative aspects that are causing the conflict and encourage all involved to come to an agreement. Successful conflict management results in a mutually beneficial outcome that all parties agree upon.

Investigations
On occasion you will require a trusted partner to undertake investigations for you. An investigation by Blue Allium allows you to see if there is a case to answer, treats everyone fairly, gathers evidence from all parties and helps you the employer decide what next steps should be.

Disciplinaries
What do you do if you have concerns about an employee’s work, conduct or absence? Do you have a disciplinary policy to provide a framework for how you proceed? What do you do if an issue presents itself? Howe can you avoid making the situation worse? How do you ensure you act in a fair, equitable and transparent way?

Blue Allium can help with these questions by working with you to put in place the processes that are right for your business and supporting you when you need to follow a process.

Grievances
A grievance is a formal way to raise a problem or a complaint by an employee in the workplace towards another employee or group of employees. A grievance is usually raised when the employee feels they have exhausted all means of trying to sort an issue informally.

Blue Allium believes that all grievances should be sorted as soon as they are identified before escalation takes place. We can work with you to put processes in place that will support the business deal with grievance allegations.

Mediation
At Blue Allium we believe that mediation is a very under used and perhaps ignored tool. Many work place disputes benefit from mediation rather than jumping straight to a more formal process. It is a voluntary and confidential process aimed at resolving workplace conflict. We carry out mediation by working with all parties involved to achieve a solution that is satisfactory to all involved.

Facilitation
Blue Allium plans, develops and conducts structured and effective meetings that produce clear results and are understood by all participants. At times it can be advantageous to have a neutral third party to help people work better together, to understand common objectives and how to reach their goals. We can be that trusted partner.

Absence Management
Your employees are usually your biggest cost and you want to support them and ensure you take account of their mental health and well-being. Doing this leads to increased levels of employee engagement and greater productivity. However, from time to time you may need to deal with persistent ad hoc absence which impacts on delivery in the short term or longer-term absence. Absence management is about reducing employee absenteeism, usually due to sickness or injury, by having policies and procedures in place. In order to be effective these policies and procedures need to be communicated effectively to all employees.

At Blue Allium we work with you on identifying absence triggers, measures to use, procedures to follow and we develop your bespoke absence management policy. We also provide return to work interviews which are considered to be the most effective way of reducing absence. In addition, we work with Employee assistance providers to develop well-being policies.

Performance
How do you know if your employees are performing? Do you set objectives and review them on an annual basis or do you review each quarter? Do you seek feedback from colleagues on performance? Is performance linked to remuneration? At Blue Allium we work with business to develop a robust performance management framework that suits the business.

It is important to have a performance structure in place as dismissal on the grounds of performance is one of the 5 reasons a dismissal can be considered fair – the others are absence, redundancy, some other substantial reason and statutory bar.
